A PARTIAL TEXLAX UPDATE

IMG_7546

Hello ladies

How are we all doing? And your hair journey?

Getting straight to the point, I texlaxed my hair last week at 21 weeks post and I have partial results to share with my favourite ladies.
The results are partial because unfortunately I could not do a length check.

The whole process went smoothly.
I texlaxed using ORS No Base relaxer. I used a little over half of the jar mixed with 1 and half teaspoons of olive oil. I also applied JBCO and olive oil to my new growth and previously texlaxed hair. The whole application and smoothing process took 17 minutes. I neutralised four times.

When it was time to deep condition, my hand dryer which I use with my hood cap broke. So I didn’t deep condition. I left the conditioner in my hair for a few hours …..and then I air dried.
My texlax day is one of the few occasions I indulge in blow drying with heat and it helps me stretch my hair out a little so I see more of its real length. A lot of ladies flat iron on texlax day but i’ve always been too lazy to do this and was happy to do a length check on just blow dried hair. I’ll have to do a length check after I pick up a replacement hand drier sometime soon. The positive thing about this is that I got to see all the texture in my hair and I loved how big it looks.

Sorry if I look miserable in the pictures, I wasn’t honestly, just super tired after a looooooooooong texlax day.  My eyes were actually stinging

Have you relaxed, texlaxed or big chopped lately?

Happy hair journey.

Hi Lade, I totally aspire to have hair as thick as yours!!!. I don’t know if you have gone through a detailed post on texlaxing but I wanted to find out how you avoid your ends from getting thinned out due to relaxer run off as you wash the relaxer out of your hair? I have coated my hair and ends with olive oil but my ends still seem to get processed again when I am rinsing out the relaxer from my hair.

It’s amazing how you can stretch your texlax for so long without getting breakages and having your hair stay manageable all through. My hair couldn’t go that long, even on its best days. it’s just too coarse and sick for such greatness. ugh.
You are doing a really great job here Lade, power to you.

P.p.p.p.s.s.s, as soon as my wallet gets fatter, i’ll surely have that consultation with you 🙂

    God bless!

      Hello Skye

Thank you very much for the compliments. The only reason I am able to stretch so long is because I have my wigs to help me.
Every lady’s hair journey is unique so do what’s best for you and your hair.
Would love to consult with you someday in the future.
      till then, happy hair journey.

I just discovered your blog and am so thrilled. I cut my hair three years ago cos they were dead from relaxers and for two years Av been relaxing my hair at home coz the salons keep getting the relaxers into my entire hair instead of just relaxing just the new growth. I actually under process my hair when I relax at home cos I noticed my hair is fuller, but sometimes I don’t get it right. I didn’t know it’s actually called texlax in. Can u give a proper procedure to texlaxing? I just leave the relaxer on for less the time, but you add olive oil.

      Hello Naomi

I have written a detailed post on texlaxing which you can find by using the blue coloured “search” at the top right of this page. Simply search for texlaxing and the post will come up.
      hope it helps

seeing you blog has really inspired me. i want to take better care of my hair but don’t know where to begin from. my hair is badly damaged. i have been hearing about henna treatment for stronger hair. have you tried it. my hair is very fragile and i think strengthening the strand might be a good place to start. my hair is relaxed

      Hello Emma
I am glad Hairducation is inspiring you with your hair. Like most ladies it was the damaged state of my hair that eventually led to me starting a hair journey.
the first thing I would suggest is that you do a bit of research (please read the how to care for black hair section of this blog) and then try to put together a simple regimen that you can start with.

if you feel that your hair is weak and needs strengthening, a protein deep condition might help. Henna does have stretnghtening properties but I think it is something that you should consider later on in your journey when you have gotten the hang of things. henna is a complicated place for a beginner to start.

      I hope this helps

Hi Lade, I started my hair journey two months ago. I’m currently stretching and am 7weeks post relaxer. I’ve been wondering how you keep your u-part wig in place on your head. Do you sew around the perimeter or what? I want to adopt your wig regimen and am planning on making the wig myself. Thanks for the help you’re giving us here.

      Hello Annabel
its my pleasure to help other ladies with their hair journeys.
The u-part wig has wig clips on the inside which keeps the wigs in place.
U-part wigs can be sewn on but I like to remove mine daily so I don’t sew my wigs on.

      Hello Anna

If you look through all the pages and posts on this site it is apparent that I reply a lot of the questions I get asked. I am not sure what you hoped to achieve by making the statement above.
Unfortunately it is not possible for me to answer every single question. I have commitments and responsibilities outside Hairducation which I am sure you can appreciate limits my time.
You are always welcome on Hairducation but please do not make it an unpleasant experience for me and other readers.

      Thanks

      Hello Lanke
What I mean is that after trelaxing, I washed my hair with the neutralising shampoo 4 times.

I use a lye relaxer which does not come with an activator.

I hope that answers your questions.

      Hello Eliznah

I am glad you stumbled on Hairducation and hope it will be off some help on your hair journey.
Good luck on creating your hair regimen.
Short hair in some ways is self protective because it is not long enough to rub on your shoulders or get caught in things, however ensure you keep you hair well moisturised and sealed to prevent it from drying out.
with regards to styles the best thing to do is to google protective styles for short hair …loads of options will come up for you to pick from.

      happy hair journey

Hi Lade, I apologise on behalf of Anna. I think she was a tad impatient. Thanks for answering my question. I’ll go comb-hunting. I’ve been doing tons of research on natural hair care and I think I’ll transition to natural hair. My natural hair is soft so I’m optimistic about being able to manage it. I’m in my 12th week post relaxer and taking it one month at a time and will concentrate on putting on weaves as my protective style(for now). Sooo what do you think? Sorry about the long message.

      Hello Annabel
Awwwww, no need to apologise at all. I should try to answer more questions I suppose.
Natural hair is awesome so its great that you want to transition.
Weaves and other long term protective styles are often used by many transitioners so long as you try to take care of your hair and have some sort of mini regimen even with the weave…
I ve written blog posts about hair care in extensions which you can find under popular post in the side bar.
I hope this helps and good luck!!!!!

Hi I have been reading your blog now for about 3 months. The day I decided to relax my hair and start my hair journey. I’m sl and today was my first texlax . I was so pleased at the out come I had to post. I did all 4 and I wish I would have took a before pic. I tried to stretch my relaxer to 4 months but it was very hard. I change my hair to much and I can’t seem to keep my hand out of it. I do have a pic from the beginning and while in 3 months I had a lot of growth.. my question is what moisturizing what is a deep conditioner should I use with low porosity hair. I believe I’m protein sensitive.
