HAIR UPDATE: 20 Weeks Post

Hello ladies

How are you? How is your hair journey going? Set back free I hope.
It’s been a minute since I did a hair update.  I am now20 weeks post and I am on the final leg of my stretch.  I had a wash day recently and whenever I have a wash day this late into my stretch I find myself asking “why do I put myself through this?”   It can be so time consuming.  I’ve decided that I will probably cut it back to waist length when I texlax in a few weeks but you know me, I’ll probably change my mind when the time comes.

20 weeks post update 2

After my wash day, I was way too busy to have time to put my hair back into box braids so I’ve been wearing my hair out for a few days now.  When I am home I put it in 16 rolled up sections.  I find that keeping my hair in sections helps me moisturise, seal and detangle my hair a lot quicker. When it’s time for me to head out I simply undo the rolls and put my hair up in a bun WITHOUT merging the 16 sections.  It means my bun is super messy but that’s how I like my hair to look so it works for me.

20 weeks post update

I don’t know why my head and hair look so big in the top pictures. Probably cos I was very close to my camera. Those top pictures actually look a lil freaky to me, like I have a hairy octopus on my head.

My hair feels really good and looks healthy so I am happy.  Despite the stretch, my shedding and breakage isn’t too bad so I think it has been a successful stretch however  I am so ready for it to be over.

I took the pictures above and below just before I put my hair in back into box braids.  So I am back to wiggin it.

What is happening with your hair? Anyone else on a stretch?

X

    Hey Lade

I’m on an unofficial long stretch. 5 weeks ago I tried to self-relax for the first time and I totally underprocessed my hair. Therefore some parts are 20+ weeks post. I’m having serious dryness issues, no product seems to be working, the winter is super harsh this year and my hair is tangling like crazy! Haha so basically I’m really feeling hopeless with my hair right now. How do you combat dryness and tangles in your new growth? I wanna get it under control before I try to relax again.

      Hello Bonolo

Its a shame you hair was under processed. That means you have a lot of different textures to manage and a lot of tangling. Please read the info on the following link for advice on managing new growth.

      Hopefully it will help

I ended my stretch 3days ago @12wks post. Not only did i gain sum length but the thickness was amazing. I plan on stetching for another 12wks… i attribute my succesful stretch to moisturising and sealing regularly and working with just my fingers (most of the time). so for this stretch, i put myself on a no comb challenge :-).

I also follow the wig regimen… but i would put my hair into twists. I find that i get less matting at my new growth when its in loose twists.

I am soooooo proud of you!!!!! well done on your stretch. I am glad you found that twists works better for your hair, it shows you are paying attention to what your hair likes. I am also super happy that you are getting the hair you want using wigs. Best of luck with the no comb challenge. Your hair will thank you for it.

Hi dear, Very impressive. Your hair looks very healthy. My hair wants to be like yours when it grows up 😉 I’m currently on a stretch as well 12 weeks in, going for 20 weeks. I had major shedding issues by week 7 – 11 but, used a sulphate free shampoo called Live Clean and the shedding has reduced a lot. Phew! Well done sis, love your blog. Do check out mine

    Hello Tasha Rae

Thank you so much for the compliments about Hairducation.
Sorry to about the hair loss you experienced in the past when you were relaxed and natural. Did you have a hair regimen in that period, because our hair ( weather relaxed or natural) tends to have a lot of issues without good hair care.

Moving forward, I genuinely wish you a happy hair journey. Please read the info under the How To Care for Black Hair menu tab for further info.
    God bless you too.

Congratulations Lade on your Hair care Consultant certification ! you hair looks healthy and growing like weed, and no its no Octopus 🙂 Btw Am currently on my normal 12 weeks stretch, 7 weeks gone already, a little dryness cos of the 7 days O town rains, but as long as i M/S every other day, and don’t indulge in protein overload, or comb after my wash day, its thriving well.

Hello omolade,I stumbled on ur site when I was trying to look for a way to end my 24 weeks hair stretch, and how happy I was after reading dis particular write up and the other one on types of relaxers,I have been really informed,God bless you real good. My question is,am scared that my hairdresser will not listen to me on how to relax especially on not relaxing already processed hair, can I do it myself? Though I have never tried it before. Again, pls help with names of protein and moisture conditioner that I can use after retouching, pls I will be retouching in 5days time and I hope u reply soonest. God bless you.

    Hello,

Thank you for your informative blog. I am texlaxed as well and am wondering if you use heat after you shampoo and condition to stretch your hair? Did I miss a post about how you style from wet hair?
