HAIR UPDATE

Hello ladies,

I texlaxed my hair almost a month ago so a hair update is due.  My hair is doing pretty okay.  My ends look a lot better after my trim and I have very little breakage.  My hair still sheds more than I would like it to but nothing alarming.  I do have one issue and have made one product alteration  and I discuss both below.

Lack of Retention

Looking back, I realised that over this year I have had periods of very inconsistent hair care, sometimes because of my schedule, sometimes because I was ill, sometimes because I was lazy and sometimes because I just didn’t care enough.
Well I didn’t get away with it,  I have trimmed off at least 5 inches of hair this year.  So I am not retaining ANY length…I am just maintaining my current length.
Although this is okay for me  because I am no longer on a hair growth journey the fact is that if I don’t step up I may begin to lose more hair than I grow and then my hair will not look healthy and be shorter than I would like it to be.

 Experimenting With A New Sealant

I am trying to be consistent with moisturising and sealing my hair daily and I have switched from using olive oil to seal to using grapeseed oil.
I used to seal with coconut oil but decided it was too light and felt olive oil would work better for me and it does.  I happened to buy some grapeseed oil and randomly decided to seal with it.  It seals in moisture in my hair for longer than coconut oil seemed to but doesn’t leave my hair as greasy as olive oil does.
One thing I must say is that my moisturising and sealing daily make me feel like my hair is weighed down for most of the week but when I try to be light handed with products my hair feels dry.

I planned to take pictures on my wash day but as life would have it my camera broke and I took these grainy shots with my phone two days after my wash day when I was moisturising and sealing.

Now you know what has been happening with my hair I would like to know what’s happening with yours.  Lets all share our hair updates.
The next post will be an educative one about the best ways to incorporate colour to your hair on your hair journey.

Come back soon

Currently, I’m recovering from a setback. My hair is okay except the ends. I really had a hard look at them recently and it’s looking like I’m going to trim off at least two inches. It will be better for the overall health of my hair.

Do you have a moisturizer that you can use that lasts longer than a day? or maybe a different sealant? If I moisturize everyday, I find that it’s a bit too much manipulation for my hair and it gets weighed down with product.

      Hello Uzoma

sorry for my late response and so so sorry about the set back you experienced. A trim should certainly help and I know that when I was ill earlier on this year and abandoned my hair, my ends took a hit but after I trimmed off 3 inches my hair felt and looked so much better.
I don’t think most moisturisers lasts longer than a day except your ends are completely hidden therefore the product hasn’t had the chance to evaporate from your hair.
Do you moisturise and seal your hair in sections, working in 4 to 6 sections shouldn’t be too much manipulation especially if you finger detangle and avoid unnecessary combing…..and off course you have to be gentle…but I am sure you already know all this.
I wish your hair a speedy recovery from the set back.

      hello sly….
The length our hair can grow to and its thickness is genetically pre-determined BUT until we take good care of our hair we will never know what its true potential is.
My first tip is have a good regimen that works well for you to minimise breakage.
if you are relaxed, consider texlaxing as this creates the illusion of thicker hair.
      I hope the above helps

Thanks for the update. As for me, i cut off all my relaxed ends and so i am now left with texlaxed afro hair which i am loving. However, i have now decided to go natural and would do a long term transition. I cant wait to start wearing my hair curly. *super excited* . Ironically, i switched from olive oil to coconut oil because olive oil seemed to work well for my hair when i had two textures but now that i have one texture, coconut oil seems to do the trick . I kind of wish that this blog was a natural hair blog lol but keep up with the good work and God Bless.

      Hello Miriam

Thank you so much for your comment and sharing your own hair update. I am happy you have decided to go natural and I hope you have a hitch free transition.
Hairducation isn’t for relaxed ladies or natural ladies, it is for anyone with black hair so even though I am texlaxed a lot of the advice on Hairducation is relevant for natural haired ladies because the principles of black hair are generally the same, ie, shampoo, deep cobdtion, finger detangle, moisture and protein balancing…etc are all things that apply to both natural, texlaxed or relaxed hair. I do appreciate that some details such as styling will be different.
either way I wish you the very best and stop by soon.

Your hair still looks great. As for mine still transitioning,(16 months),and though I have about 9 inches worth of new growth, that still feels too short to me,those relaxed ends are getting on my last nerve though, wanna cut at 2 years post, ill probably have more length.Hair is in braids now though.

      Hey Aurorae
I am glad your transition is going well. the longest Ive stetch is 6months and I can only imagine the work you out into managing your hair at 16 months post. Much respect to you. Well you only have 8 months to go before your big chop, I am so sure it will be worth it.
long term protective styles like braids and weaves and weaves can really lighten the load.
      Happy hair journey

    Hello,
Just relaxed my hair after 2 years and 6 months of being natural. The problem is the stylist over processed it so it is bone straight at the roots but she didn’t relax the tips as I instructed her not to. Can I still follow your regimen? Is it possible to get the hair back to a texlaxed form where it can have a full body instead of the flat look? How do I go about this if it is possible? Kindly help me out. I look forward to reading from you soonest. Thank you.
