RELAXER UPDATE No 2

Hello ladies

I texlaxed my hair in mid February and followed my usual process which can be seen here.
It went smoothly and I am super thrilled with the result of my 6 months stretch.  I think I will stretch for 6 months going forward.
The key improvement I noticed with this stretch is how much thicker my hair feels.  My hair strands have not multiplied of course.  I attribute the increased thickness to the 3 inches of new growth I had and very little breakage because my hair was protected under my wigs and I was not manipulating my hair.  Basically I didn’t lose too many hair strands over the last 6 months.

 Texlax 2014 february

Length wise I did a really bad job in doing a proper length check.
I usually try to take length check pictures the same day I relax however I finished very late at night so I simply cross wrapped my hair and went to bed.  The next day I was surprised that I still had that fresh blow dry swing in my hair which I tried to capture in the pictures above and below..

 Hairducation texlax Feb 2014

I attempted to do a length check however because of the cross wrap I did the night before, my hair had bends in it.  So I moisturised and sealed and finger combed to get it to hang straight.  As soon as I moisturised my hair,  that fresh blow dried swing disappeared and my hair was somewhat weighed down.  Also because my hair is texlaxed, when I moisturised my hair it changed from being bone straight and the kinks left in my hair returned.
I took the pictures below and then had to dash out.

 Texlax February 2014

Two days after I texlaxed  I realised that I had not done a back shot so I took down my bun, moisturised and sealed and finger combed. By the time the pictures below were taken my hair was a little greasy  and stringy but at least it shows where my hair is at the moment. texlax feb 2014 a

Although it is a little past waist length, I will hang on to my waist length tag because that is my goal length and I intend  trim 2 inches off in a week or so.  I am determined to remove my older thinner ends.  I don’t know when or if I will ever get the blunt ends I am looking but I am more than happy with what I do have.  I am just glad this stretch is over and I am ready to do it all again.

How is your hair journey going?  Have you telexed your hair recently?  Do have new hair goals?

X

Wonderful results, your hair is absolutely gorgeous. You are at my goal length. I love your fairy ends, I am not a huge fan of the blunt cut, doesn’t look natural to me.

      Hey Abbi
Thank you. I know the blunt cut isn’t a natural look. sometimes I wonder why I like that look so much 🙂
Maybe I should just embrace my fairy ends…lol
      we’ll see.

    Hello Lade!
Thank you plenty for sharing your tips, regimen n’ all regards black hair care. I must say I’ve learnt a whole lot (I even have a notebook dedicated for putting down all i’ve learnt here. no joke!). I’m yet to officially begin my hair journey using ur tips as a guide because I actually just relaxed my hair. Right now my hair is just before the bra length and I know it will go past that if I take care of my hair right.
Sorry o that I’m writing much but I’ve got some questions to ask regards some new words I learnt here on your blog
    1. Is ‘TEXLAX’ the same as RELAX?
    2. What is ‘BONE STRAIGHT’?
    3. I’m not really a fan of wearing wigs, but do cornrows (which I have on most times) serve as protective styles in place of the wigs?

    Thanks for sharing and ‘hairducating’!!!

      Hello Topinpin

I see you are serious about your hair journey:)
So sorry i am just responding to your comment.
Texlax means relaxing your hair but letting it underprocess so that some of your natural kink or texture remains.
Relaxing bone straight means allowing your hair to become completely straight with no kink or curl left in your hair.
Cornrows can be protective styles if your hairline, hair and scalp can tolerate it.
You must keep caring for your hair even with cornrow.

Hellooooo Lade! Lol! Yes o! After going through your blog, I got gingered in my spirit to revive my hair journey. Thank you for the reply. Been looking forward to it. I usually relax bone straight o, seems I will try texlaxing but that will be towards the end of the year as I’m on a hair stretch.
Whooop!!! Cool I can still rock my cornrows and sure I’ll keep caring for my hair.
Thanks a lot and God bless you 🙂

Very nice! Looks like you’ve crossed the 20 mark on your length check shirt 😮 – especially in the pics before MnSing.

      Hey Tolu
I am actually not sure to be honest. So I just stick to the length I see clearly ( after MnSing) which is 17 or so. I am definitely due for a trim though.

Internet problems made me late…BUT your hair!!!!! Lade this is amazing. Not to sound cheesy or anything like that but I’m really proud of you. Just beautiful! I can imagine the number of ‘what weave is this’ you get each time you step out. Afro hair really does grow, Nigerian hair growwwws!!! By your next relaxer you’d definitely be hitting classic length (butt length). Good job!!! Thanks for being our hairspiration and God bless you. Wishing me and my sis a hair journey as successful as yours.

Awwwwwwwwwwww, thank you so so so much. Our hair grows. Black hair grows. Ive said it before and I will always say it, I honestly used to believe that it wasn’t possible for our hair to grow beyond armpit lenght, unless you were born with that special hair gene.

I don’t know about butt length, that would be mega work. I will maintain waist length for a while and see how I feel as time goes on.
God bless you too and good luck to us all on our hair journeys.

      Hello Adanna
Thank you!!! I am glad Hairducation is doing what I hoped it would. Wow on the 10 month stretch.
The fact that you are on a hair journey is great, doesn’t really matter if youre new to it or have been on the journey for decades. 🙂
I hope you get your hair to the health and length you desire.

Hey Lade, love the blog. And your hair!!!! I started my hair journey in May 2013 with a little more than a twa but now I’m texlaxed. Last month I finally hit full SL/CBL. I feel like I’m progressing slowly, the first milestone I’m aiming for is APL by July.. Do you think it’s a realistic goal? And also did your hair needs change? I’m seeing that my hair is enjoying more protein since my last texlax. Sorry for the long comment but you’re awesome 😀

Hope to hear from you soon, you have an avid South African follower here

      Hello Bonolo
Thanks for the compliments and well done on your hair journey.
Its difficult for me to determine if your goal is realistic or not because I am not sure of your monthly growth rate. I don’t think its impossible. So I’ll say gofor it, if you get to APL by July, great. if you don’t then don’t get discouraged and keep going.
Definitely our protein/moisture needs change from time to time. I think its fab that you can determine what your hair needs. Shows that you know what you are doing on your hair journey.
Good luck and please keep me posted.
